Thank You Cards for Bee Crafty

Hello!

This week on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog I am sharing some quick thank you cards that I have made ready to give out to my son's teachers at the end of the year (this is unnaturally organised for me!!).  I have chosen the colours to match the notebooks that I have made for them...

I wanted cards that would be quite quick to make but also effective so chose to create backgrounds using the distress oxide inks.  I then added some script stamping and Wildflower 1 in the matching distress colours before using Wildflower 2 and one of the Everyday Sentiments in black to really stand out.

Here are the products used:

* Beautanicals - Wildflower 1, Wildflower 2
* Backdrops - XL Script
* Wordage - Everyday Sentiments 1
* Distress Oxide Ink pads

Happy crafting,

Scenic Animal Samples for Bee Crafty

Hello!

It is my turn on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog today I thought I would share a few of the samples that I made for the recent shows on HOCHANDA...

For this project I used one of the MDF tags and bright coloured acrylic paints to create the base.  I then stencilled through a couple of different d'inkables and then added a bit of doodling with black and white pens.  The giraffe was stamped over the top using black ink and finally the words added direct to the tag as well.

As soon as I saw the map stamp I wanted to make a travel journal.  Two pieces of board were coated with silver paint then texture paste added through the chevron d'inkable and versamark through the circle lattice which I then heat embossed with a chunky powder.  The map was stamped and embossed with gold to be added to the front of the journal along with the words.

For this shaker card I wanted a black and white theme so after cutting my frame I worked out where I needed my zebra to be before stamping it in black ink.  The glitter and micro beads were added to the middle and then the frame and acetate stuck onto the front with foam tape.  The word was stamped and then cut into a banner shape before adding some distress ink around the edges.

* World Map Stamp
* Travel Words 1
* D'Inkables
* MDF

Home Plaque for Tando Creative

Hello!

For my anything goes project today on the Tando Creative blog I decided to make something a little bit quirky and colourful...

I used a media board for the base and the background was created using weathered wood and acrylic paint.  Unfortunately I messed up the crackle and ended up blasting it with a heat gun to get a bubbly paint effect, then used gold gilding wax over the top to create a distressed look.  Gold sparkle paste was added through the criss cross stencil and some script stamping added...

The house from the whimsical houses set 2 was coloured by printing with acrylic paint on a gelli plate then extra stencilling and stamping added...

The letters were stamped and coloured then added to plaque.

The products used were...

* Media board
* Whimsical Houses Set 2
* Criss Cross Stencil
* Numbers Stencil

A Notebook of Joy and Gelli Prints for Bee Crafty

Hello!

It is my turn today to share a project with you on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty Blog and as it is almost the end of the school holidays here I have started to think about gifts for my son's teacher and assistants at the end of the year.  So I decided to get ahead of the game and created a notebook with decorated pages...

I started by cutting the covers and spine from mount board using a die that I have and then coated them with gesso, white for the covers and black for the spine.  I used 3 colours of Dylusions paint brayering them on in layers (polished jade, fresh lime and lemon zest) and then used white ink to stamp the multi mini distressed diamonds and archival ink with the XL script stamp...

The wildflower 2 stamp was added using grey and green archival inks as I wanted them to look quite soft.  Then I added some streaks of crackle glaze to both covers (you can't really pick it up in the photos) and stencilled through the distressed harlequin d'inkable using glass bead gel.  When these mediums had dried I added some gold gilding wax.  Next I stamped one of the small butterflies onto the cover then again onto card and coloured with aqua markers and clear sparkle pen, then coated with glossy accents.  The sentiment was stamped in watering can archival ink as I wanted to continue with softer tones then coloured the pieces with distress oxide inks...

I didn't want plain pages for the notebook so after cutting them from mixed media paper I used my gelli plate and distress oxide inks to colour them.  Then I placed the d'inkables on the gelli plate and reprinted the pages to create extra pattern...

I used the same coloured inks to stamp some of the beautanical images onto the pages.  The colours used were twisted citron, peeled paint, cracked pistachio, peacock feathers and fossilized amber...

To complete the notebook I used my crop a dile to add eyelets for an organza ribbon closure.  The pages were added to the book quite simply by tying a piece of elasticated cord round the middle of them, then sliding the cord around the spine.  I have seen lots of notebooks and journals with pretty dangly charms attached so made my own using some beads, jump rings, chain and a head pin (from my jewellery making days!) and attached it to the cord.

Here are the links to the products used...

* Beautanicals - Wildflower 2, Teasels, Dandelion, Ground Elder
* Art Stamps - Birds and Butterflies Set 1
* Backdrops - Multi Mini Distressed Diamonds, XL Script
* Wordage - Joy Is a Flower
* D'Inkables - Distressed Harlequin, Circles, Metal Alpha, Hexagons
* Dylusions Paints
* Distress Oxide Inkpads
* Archival Inkpads

I now need to make another two in different styles and I will be well prepared for July!!

Thank you for looking and happy crafting,

Textured Heart Tag for Tando Creative

Hello!

This week the theme on the Tando Creative blog is texture paste so I thought I would use a couple of my favourite types plus one that is new for me...

Because I wanted to use 3 different textures I decided to build up a tag using some different Tando Creative elements.  Most of them come from the Andy Skinner Eldaro kit with an extra large cog from the Industrial Elements and a smaller cog from the mini cogs selection.
I wanted to use some brighter colours but also still have a bit of a grungy effect so to start I coated all the pieces with some black gesso.
Using a palette knife I applied crackle paste to the heart.  Once dry it was painted using pyrole red then black antiquing cream added and once dried wiped back...

The large and smaller cog parts had sand texture paste added all over.  For this I just dabbed it on with my fingers.  Once this was dried I added burnt umber, burnt sienna and diarylide yellow paints.  Phthalo turquoise was then dry brushed across the top.  The wings were painted using pyrole orange and hansa yellow light to create a sunburst effect and then stamping using the Andy Skinner steampunk set was added using black archival ink...

The main tag was stencilled using the clear modelling paste (a new one for me) through the distressed sequins stencil.  Once dry I used a few shades of blue and attempted to rub back the colour on the stencilled areas.  This had varying success as I think I left the paint to dry for too long.  I added some gold gilding wax at the end to help bring the texture out.  Some more stamping was also added to the tag to match the wings...

Once all the pieces were glued together I added a sticker sentiment which I coloured with a blue paint wash and some ink around the edges.  Finally some rusty wire was attached to make a hanger.

Here are the links to the main products used:

Circles of Hope Art Journal Pages for Bee Crafty

Hello!

I am back on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty Blog today with a bit more art journaling!  I thought it had been a while since I last posted some here and as I created my pages I realised that I have a real circle obsession going on!!  This time though I went for a more grungy/graffiti feel as I wanted to use one of the Inspired by Banksy stamps within the pages...

I used a double page spread in my mixed media journal which has different surfaces to work on.  Here I have used a canvas fabric page on the right and a cotton watercolour page on the left.  This means that you do get different results on the surfaces but that is what I like about it!  I started by coating both pages with clear gesso as I wanted to prepare them but also wanted to keep the colours of the pages.  Then I used my fingers to apply 4 different colours of acrylic paint, I chose mostly earthy colours but felt that a pop of pink was needed to lighten them...

My next layer was stencilling which I added using 2 of the same colours but then to lighten and add contrast I also used some white gesso.  I used the d'inkables chevrons, metal alpha and regular dots, I love my d'inkables and find them really handy for this type of project...

Next was the stamping.  I wanted to try something a bit different using my water soluble pigment sticks with the bubble wrap stamp.  I wet the stick then scribbled over the stamp before adding it to the page.  It didn't come out as clearly as I had hoped but I quite liked the watery look it gave.  Then I added the numbers stamp using black archival ink to make sure it showed up against the background...

For some reason almost all of my journal pages end up with circles on them and this was no exception!  I used my fingers to add circles of white gesso to the page (I looked at the style wire circles for a size guideline).  Once I had made sure it was dry I stamped the circles with archival ink and also added some extras that were not on the gesso...

Using the same colour palette I added some paint to the circles and then some dots and dashes doodling using pens.  This was followed by some white paint splashes...

To finish the pages I stamped the girl and balloons onto white card, cut out and adhered to the page.  Finally I chose the sentiment which I cut into pieces to add to the page...

Without further ado here is my design team mixed media creation for this month...

I used a Tando Creative greyboard tag for the base, coating it with gesso and using crackle paste through a Bee Crafty hexagon d'inkable.  Then I used Lindy's Gang sprays to create the colour in layers...

Next I added some stamping using archival and staz on inks in shades of brown.  I used the multi mini distress diamonds and XL script stamps from Bee Crafty.  To bring out some of the texture on the tag I also added some gold gilding wax...

To create my focal point I wanted the contrast of different types of embellishments.  So I raided my crafty stash and selected paper flower, leaves, metal filigrees and gems to adhere to the bottom part of the tag.  To tie in the flowers and leaves a bit more I added the same gold gilding wax I had used on the tag...

Finally I added the finishing touches.  First was the Bee which I stamped from a Tim Holtz set, the body onto card and the wings onto acetate. I also used glossy accents on the body which had been coloured with watercolour pens.  I then chose 3 stickers from the Tim Holtz Small Talk book and added those along with some ribbon to the top of the tag...

Bees always remind me of the start of Spring which is why I wanted one on my tag this month.  I would also like to enter my project into the following challenges...

Altered Eclectics: Butterfly Tag Art Board

Hello!

As another new month begins so does another challenge over on the Altered Eclectics challenge blog.  It is always fab seeing your creations and it would be great to see as many entries as possible this month once again.  The theme is always anything goes with altered art and mixed media but no cards or ATC's please.  If you would like to enter, look at the design team inspiration or check out the rules then you can click HERE to go to the challenge blog.

This month I have altered an MDF tag art board using a variety of mixed media products...

The board is from Bee Crafty and after preparing it with white gesso I added crackle paste with a palette knife then after it had dried used Lindy's sprays to colour it.  Next some stencilling was added with silver paint and then some background stamping using archival inks...

For extra texture some more stencilling was added using sparkle paste.  A variety of flowers and embellishments were added using glue gel and then I stamped some butterflies from the For the Love of Stamps set 'Spread your Wings', colouring them with aqua markers and cutting them out.  The sentiment was also stamped from the same set...

Final touches were some gilding wax and a silver ribbon.  Thank you reading and I hope you will pop over to the challenge blog for a look.

Happy crafting,

Jane xx
